Ramen Goel
A pioneer laparoscopy surgeon who trained hundreds of surgeons in safe laparoscopy as Professor of Surgery at the Grant Medical College, Mumbai from 1994-2010. He started bariatric surgeries in 2001 and is a founder member of Obesity Surgery Society of India, affiliated with IFSO. He is Founder President of Diabetes Surgery Foundation, the Past President of the All India Association for Advancing Research in Obesity(AIAARO),(2007-2009), and of Indian Association of Gastro-intestinal Endo Surgeons(IAGES)(2020-2021). He is currently the Chief Trustee of the IAGES. He was conferred Fellowship(FRCS) by the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh in 2020, Fellowship(FMBS) by the Obesity Surgery Society of India in 2020 and Fellowship(IFASMBS) by the American Society of Metabolic & Bariatric Surgeons in 2021. He is the Founder Editor of the Journal of Bariatric Surgery(JBS), Associate Editor of Journal of Minimal Access Surgery(JMAS) and member of the specialist board of National Board of Examinations(NBE), India. He was the Scientific Chairman of the 20th World Congress of Endoscopic Surgeries(WCES2024) and Organising Chairman of 3rd Spring Meeting of Endoscopic & Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia(ELSA 2026). He has been conferred the Best Researcher of the Year award in 2022 and has published over 40 articles in peer reviewed journals, contributing chapters in books and conducting primary surgical research. He is conducting phase 1 & phase 3 trials for Novo Nordisk, Eily Lilly and surgical companies.
