Dr. Benjamin Lam is a Senior Consultant Family Physician and Clinical Director of the Integrated Care for Obesity and Diabetes (ICOD) clinic at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH). He earned his medical degree from the National University of Singapore in 2004, followed by a Master of Medicine in Family Medicine in 2010, and a Fellowship from the College of Family Physicians Singapore in 2013.
Dr. Lam’s keen interest in obesity and metabolic medicine led him to pursue a 1-year Clinical Research Fellowship at Imperial College, London in 2013, under the Human Manpower Development Programme (HMDP) by the Ministry of Health. During this time, he also obtained a Master of Science in Weight Management. In 2024, he completed his PhD at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), focusing on mechanisms underlying obesity across Singapore's ethnic groups. His passion for research is driven by his commitment to improving outcomes for his patients affected by obesity.
Dr. Lam is also actively involved in teaching, serving as the Associate Programme Director for the Family Medicine Residency Program at the National Healthcare Group (NHG). He is also a Clinical Mentor and Lecturer at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS), and contributes as a Research Tutor at the College of Family Physicians Singapore.
Beyond clinical practice, research and teaching, Dr. Lam has been the Vice President of the Singapore Association for the Study of Obesity (SASO). He also actively engages in public education through media platforms, including radio interviews, articles, and social media campaigns. As a respected speaker, Dr. Lam regularly shares his expertise with healthcare professionals within KTPH, other hospitals, and at national societies.
