Date Aug 24nd, 2025 Dr. Yahya Al Azri, MD, FACS, FRCSC, ABSC, MRCSEd Senior Consultant Laparoscopic General Surgeon, Hepatobiliary and Transplant Surgeon Head of Hepatobiliary Unit, Royal Hospital, Muscat, Oman Dr. Yahya Al Azri is a distinguished Senior Consultant specializing in Laparoscopic General Surgery, Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic Surgery, and Transplantation. He currently leads the Hepatobiliary Unit at the Royal Hospital in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, where he performs complex liver, pancreatic, and biliary reconstructive surgeries, including advanced laparoscopic procedures. Dr. Al Azri received his medical degree from the College of Medicine at Sultan Qaboos University in 1998. He completed his basic surgical training under the auspices of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2002. His pursuit of excellence continued with five years of General Surgical training at McGill University from 2004 to 2009, where he earned certification from both the Canadian and American Boards of General Surgery. Notably, he excelled in the Canadian Association of General Surgery (CAGS) Examination, receiving the prestigious Steven Norvell Award. Furthering his expertise, Dr. Al Azri completed a fellowship in Hepatobiliary Surgery and Transplantation at Birmingham University, UK, followed by focused training in living donor liver transplantation in Turkey in 2011. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Al Azri has made significant contributions to medical education and research. He served as Chairman of the General Surgery Training Program in Oman from 2013 to 2017 and chaired the Research Subcommittee and the Examination Committee at the Oman Medical Specialty Board for four years each. He has also been a member of the General Surgery Educational Committee for a decade and participated in the Accreditation Committee for one year. Dr. Al Azri is actively involved in international medical communities, serving as a governor for Oman at the Endo Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia (ELSA) and as a current member of the Higher Medical Council in Oman. He has authored numerous scientific publications and review articles and has been a speaker and moderator at several international conferences, reflecting his commitment to advancing the field of surgery
