Andrea Pietrabissa
Andrea Pietrabissa was born in Pisa, Italy. He received his medical degree and surgical training at the University of Pisa. After a 2 years Research Fellowship at the University of Chicago, he was appointed Senior Registrar and Lecturer at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, Scotland. Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Pisa in 2000, he became Full Professor of Surgery at the University of Pavia in 2010, where he currently serves as Director of General Surgery, Head of the Department of Innovation and member of the University Academic Senate. He is Past- President of the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery (2019-21). His main research interest is in the field of technology for surgery. Author of 234 peer-review articles, (Scopus H-index 46, 4644 citations) he is an International Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and of the European Surgical Association (ESA). He is the 2021 recipient of the SAGES International Ambassador Award. The blueprint of his EAES Presidency were: addressing disparities in surgery, the EAES Forward training program and circular economy in surgery.
