Yosuke Seki Japan

Yosuke Seki, MD, PhD is a consultant bariatric (weight loss) surgeon at the Weight Loss and Metabolic Surgery Center and the chief at the Division of Clinical Research, Yotsuya Medical Cube, Tokyo. He graduated in medicine and trained in surgery at Osaka University, Osaka. He completed two overseas clinical fellowships in bariatric/metabolic surgery. He is a board-certified surgeon in general surgery and advanced laparoscopic surgery. He won the 1st prize at the laparoscopic suturing technique competition during the JSES (Japan Society for Endoscopic Surgery) annual meeting in 2005. His specific clinical and research interests are the effects of gastrointestinal surgery on the pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes especially for Asian as well as the surgical treatment of gastroesophageal / laryngopharyngeal reflux disease (GER/LPRD). Up to now, he and his team have experienced +2,200 laparoscopic / endoscopic bariatric procedures and +700 laparoscopic anti-reflux procedures. Also, he has published +100 English and +150 Japanese written original research papers, reviews and textbooks. He is a scientific, education and international committee member of JSES and the past chair of library committee of IFSO-APC (International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders – Asia Pacific Chapter). He received the Kawamura Award at the 41st Annual Meeting of Japan Society for Treatment of Obesity (JSTO).
